About Andy

Andrew (Andy) Water Schmeder (born, 1978) is an inventor, a scientist, and a performance artist. His personal mission is to further the evolution of human life, expression and perception by inventing new modalities, machines and materials, and to have fun doing it.  Andy’s practice of discovery is based on a continuous process of training and research in parallel with cycles of experimentation, analysis and design that arises naturally from the combination of his innate curiosity and drive for systematic exploration of materials, devices and ideas.

His unique combination of strengths include a strong mathematical intuition, a gift for explaining complex ideas, for making funny noises with his mouth, versatile facial gestures, for performing feats of strength and an impeccable sense of style.  His weaknesses may include chocolate, finishing things (he is of course an incessant perfectionist and a workaholic), green tea, and a slight excess of hubris, irrational exuberance, and over-thinking. His greatest fear in life is boredom–so far its gotten on pretty well.

Andy is presently the Vice-President of Technology for EnChroma Inc., a startup company founded in Berkeley CA, which is currently engaged in stealth mode operations (ninja style!).

Andy has been a Dvorak typist for over a decade, his favorite fruit is the avocado, and he prefers salad with no dressing.  His favorite programming language is Mathematica. His heros are Spiderman and Marvin the Android, and he believes that ninjas will prevail over pirates.  His middle name really is “Water”, which he got from his parents whom he loves very much.
